Those that possess cheap Blu-ray Players are aware of the many benefits they gain from this HD format. nonetheless there are generally many millions around the globe still clinging to their older DVD Player, resistant in making the swap. Yet, after a while transformation ought to take place. Numerous small business leaders expect Blu-ray probably will wash out the digital video disc amongst the coming years.

P R I N T Printer Friendly The Product: while it’s taken time and tenacity, Tyler Perry is slowly trending toward the mainstream. It’s a mutual thing – his cultural profile has increased dramatically since TBS began wallpapering his sitcoms – House of Payne, Meet the Browns – all over its sizable Superstation network. Even better, his films have branched out beyond merely recreating his singular stage plays. He’s even gone the route of adapting difficult works – like For Colored Girls – in hopes of broadening his range. Of course, as long as he has that pot-smoking, gun-toting, kid-smacking battle axe Madea to rely on, he’ll never go broke. as a matter of fact, the defiant drag icon may be his most lasting legacy, a truism built on the anarchic stereotype of the African American matriarch. His latest film, Madea’s Big Happy Family takes everything Perry has learned over the last few years, filtered through a more standard narrative formula and, as a result, manages to be the first effort in his catalog that doesn’t merely cater to the converted. Even if you don’t like his ‘Go with God’ message, the movie itself is funny and heartfelt enough to win you over. (more…)
Let me be the first one to say that Sony Pictures/Screen Gems did NOT do right by Attack the Block, a film I still firmly hold as one of the best films I’ve seen this year. (and perhaps the best film of the summer). despite great reviews and great audience response, the film never got the kind of solid and wide spread theatrical release it so rightly deserved.

UK retailers GAME and Gamestation have from today started selling Blu-ray movies and music in-store, on the same day that the Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray boxset is released.
Around 300 stores in total will offer a catalogue of over 60 Blu-ray films. Blu-rays will also be included in future trade-in and pre-owned offers, just like games.

Yes, you can always mix-and-match brands of components without problems. the only advantage of getting the same brand of player and TV is that *maybe* the remote control for one of them will run both, and *maybe* when you turn one component on, the other will also turn on and switch to the correct source automatically (I say maybe, because it depends on the brand and the features of the components you buy).

Kool-Aid. while it may be the favorite drink of millions, it was something that I never really warmed up to as a child. Never really liked the taste; my seven-year-old taste buds preferred the burn of Vernor’s Ginger Ale and Brio Chinotto. when adults speak of drinking the Kool-Aid, it has a completely different meaning and it is rarely a good one.

This past Friday I “upgraded” to Blu-Ray and have had nothing but problems. I bought an LG BD570 Blu-Ray player. I had no problems setting it up and connecting it to my wireless network. however, of the four Blu-Ray movie I bought (T2, Daybreakers, the Wolfman (2010) and the Book of Eli), three of them had moderate to severe playback issues. (Book of Eli was the only one that played fine). at random points through the films, the movie would speed up and play at 4x normal speed and the audio would be out of sync to the point that the movies were unwatchable.

Video: the video quality of this transfer is a tough one to judge. at first glance, the video quality is dull and uneventful. this remains true even after thorough inspection of the video. however, the overall quality is much better. this film is shot with a new digital technology, and it shows how bland an HD film can be on Blu-ray. the colors are less than spectacular. More energy was spent on the contrast, brightness and deep black levels. and as far as those items go, they are terrific. however, the lack of vivid colors really makes watching this film a downer. it shows how big of a part stylistic choices play in the viewer’s experience of the film. Details are extraordinary. however, as with colors, the texture is missing, leading to a bland image with a lack of depth. Despite these issues, the video quality remains one of the most natural looking films. Just doesn’t convey that cinematic experience. Audio: the DTS-MA HD 5.1 audio track on this release is faithful to the original, but overly bland. this matches the blandness of the video quality. the surround channels come and go, but remain inactive for most of the film. the LFE channel also comes and goes, but is never provides the low-frequency impact that is expected. the liveliest part of the audio track is the compilation of pop/rock music. Still, the overall enveloping nature of the audio track is missing. aside from this, dialogue is clear and present and the dynamic range is decent for the original sound design. Bonus Materials: this Blu-ray package comes with a Blu-ray disc and a DVD Copy of the film. All the bonus materials are on the Blu-ray, but only a couple of them make it to the DVD. “last Chance Lloyd” is a short that seems more like some deleted scenes about Lloyd and his sister. “Putting on ‘Prom’” is a quick making-of featurette. aside from that there are seven music videos, bloopers and four deleted scenes. the bonus materials are fairly weak, demonstrating the lack of depth in the film itself. “Prom” is comfort food, a bit entertaining, but of hardly any real substance. the video and audio qualities are decent, but mainly suffer in terms of original stylistic choices. Welcome to Casting Call. in this series I’ll be taking a look at the people who, arguably, most profoundly and most visibly effect our response to cinema; the actors. each week I’ll profile and look at the career of an actor from one of the week’s cinema, blu ray or dvd releases, and discuss several of their films and performances.
